Hi! I am Rebecka - the Wrusty Nib
I am here to give some backstory to the mini-comic zines I like to tuck into unexpected spaces in my community. There is so much magic out there and I am gonna catch it for a moment with illustrations and commentary.
I am an autobiographical comic artist working primarily in ink and watercolor washes. I am moved to create short-form comics that blend personal narrative, absurdity, and a dash of social critique, exploring themes of power and class, mutual aid, while manifesting futures shaped by collective care. I spent over twenty years working in anti-poverty initiatives, food justice, and community-based support systems, experiences that continues to inform my storytelling practice. My comics draw from a working-class lived experience and by the rough edges of daily life, using hand-drawn processes, granulating washes, a trusty nib pen, and mix media paper, to foreground imperfection and texture as narrative tools. I publish my ongoing work here on The Wrusty Nib, and distribute comics and mini-zines in my local community.
