I wrote this 2-part micro-comic a little over a year ago. I arrived to Corvallis after a finishing an AmeriCorps year on Lake Tahoe. Seriously, my office was all windows, built over the lake. My desk was furthest from the windows - and over 20 years later - it is still the best office space I have ever had. I originally wrote this comic because I get so mad when I hear someone say “we have a homeless problem because of all the resources we provide for the homeless people.” I get so mad because I came here with a few tubs and enough money to score a mid-range hybrid bike from the local bike shop. I came here to take advantages of the resources, and I was and still remain (like most of us) only one bad turn or one big unexpected medical event from losing it all. Free meals don’t make people homeless and they don’t make homeless people travel. You can get a free meal almost anywhere, and half the time they are okay meals - sometimes they are bad. If you have ever taken the free meat chub from the food bank, you know what I am talking about. I don’t event think JC Mersmann could make that chub taste good.
